The new committee of the Malta Basketball Association, under President Paul Sultana, is having a busy summer under different fronts.
At a recent meeting for the men’s national team players he informed them of the commitments for the coming two years leading up to the GSSE Games in Luxembourg in 2013. As part of the preparations he announced that Italian coach Paolo di Fonzo will be the new national team coach and will be coming to Malta to hold a number of training camps. The first one starts on 25th September and will run for three days. At the same time coach Di Fonzo will also conduct a training camp for the U’16 boys national team. Di Fonzo will also be responsible for setting up a coaching framework for the coaches in charge of the junior national teams from U’14 up to U’18.
Paolo Di Fonzo is an ex Serie A1 coach of Virtus Roma, well known in basketball circles in Malta as he has been here on a number of occasions to conduct training camps at club level and local players have attended his camps in Italy.
Coaches at all levels will be invited to attend the training sessions, thus ensuring that maximum benefit is obtained from Di Fonzo’s three-day presence.
