web2v222 web1v222
The Basketball in Schools Programme is one of two 'Schools Promotion' projects currently being undertaken by the Malta Basketball Association, namely the Basketball Promotion Unit (BPU) led by Leonard Falzon (going on for a number of years) as well as the Basketball in Schools Programmewhich was launched last February and is led by Bernard Vassallo.
In this latter programme, basketball goes to the schools (not catered by the BPU programme) themselves and is aimed for ideally Year 5 and 6 students over the course of 4/6 sessions over respective weeks whereby the students are introduced to the game of basketball added with physical exercise drills.

Another school serviced in April and May was the Primary School at St Augustine College where sessions were held with all the Year 6 classes at this school in Marsa.

The MBA Basketball in Schools would like to thank all the staff at St Augustine College Primary School for their collaboration especially the Collage Headmaster, Mr Reuben Mifsud and the Assistant Head in charge of the year 6 classes, Ms Veronique De Gabriele Ferrante who were very co-operative and welcoming towards this new basketball in schools project.

A TV feature was also carried out at this school during one of the sessions. This was then aired on the weekly basketball programme '3-pointer'. Click here to see this TV Feature.

Basketball in Schools Programme in Paola Primary B

The Basketball in Schools programme is one of two 'Schools Promotion' projects currently being undertaken by the Malta Basketball Association.

The Basketball Promotion Unit (BPU) led by Leonard Falzon has been around for a number of years and in this programme, students, ranging from Primary to Secondary level come to the MBA Training Courts in Ta' Qali where they are provided with basketball sessions.

The Basketball in Schools programme was launched last February and is led by Bernard Vassallo. In this programme, basketball goes to the schools (not catered by the BPU programme) themselves and is aimed for ideally Year 5 and 6 students over the course of 4/6 sessions over respective weeks whereby the students are introduced to the game of basketball added with physical exercise drills.

One of the schools serviced in April and May was Paola Primary B and here the MBA was also assisted by Hibernians BC, the main club in the area, who provided one of their foreign players, Fabrizio Mariani/Churchill Barrows, as helpers during the sessions. The programme in Paola was also concluded with Hibernians being invited to present a basketball demonstration on the final day.

Other local clubs are invited to come forward and, similarly to what Hibernians did, join the MBA Basketball in Schools programme for sessions in schools within their 'catchment area'.
